As far as I am concerned,
cooking for the freezer is one of the smartest things you can do. Whether
you call it OAMC (Once-A-Month-Cooking), batch cooking, mega-cooking, etc.,
freezer cooking is one of the greatest ideas ever to make your life easier.
We have a VERY busy schedule with Scouts, 4H, after school activities,
homework, classes, therapy, Doctors visits, etc. We are generally
out 2 to 4 nights a week!! Freezer cooking is a lifesaver!!
There are several ways to fill
First ~ You can simply double
or triple the meals that you make during the week. Eat one and freeze
the other(s). This combined with a little pre-cooking will fill your freezer
Second ~ The traditional session.
You take a day or two to cook and you will enjoy the fruit of your labors
for WEEKS!! During a traditional session you usually cook several
different kinds of meat and about 2-6 weeks worth of meals.
Third ~ Mini Sessions..
usually of a certain type meat. These are nice when you catch a sale or
are getting low on one type of food. Also several mini sessions in
a row is a nice way for someone with a busy schedule to get a start.
Personally I prefer the third
way.. mini sessions.. when my freezer is very low and I need to do a BIG
session i do several minis over a 3-4 day period. one meat at a time. And
I fill in with other mini sessions as needed.
the process is simple...
make a menu or list of meals
make your grocery list
shopping.. never on a cooking
Prep-work/precooking.. this is
easiest if you do it the night before
