Menu Planning

This is the first and probably most important step.  DON'T PANIC!! Remember, you can do this in several mini sessions.. even when I am out of everything I still arrange my cooking by meats.. all ground beef first, followed by chicken, with soups and beans worked in using crockpots.

Make a chart for each type of meal. Poultry, beef, meatless etc.
List the meals you will be making and what dishes will be needed to complete the meal. You don't want to get surprised at dinnertime!

Poultry

main dish
quantity
side dish
vegetable
salad
alternate dish

Chicken pot Pie
4

green
ice cream
Etc...

Suggestions:

  1. Cook with a partner.
  2. Consider time of year and holidays.  Don't forget special things like birthdays and dinner guests.  Also think of portioning out a few lunches.  Plan for those great sales around holiday times.
  3. 9x13 pan is very large consider 2 - 8x8 and it will fit in a gallon Ziploc bag.

Meal Balance

Make a chart numbering the days of the month amount of meals you are making. You can prepare up to 4 months so make one chart per month.

Recipes for the month of…………………

1 - 31
Chicken
Turkey
Ground Beef
Beef
Pork
Seafood
Lamb
Veggie
1. Chicken pot Pie
4

2. Tacos
4

3. Broccoli Beef
3

4. Pizza
4

31. Etc.………

Total meals should balance out so you are not eating all beef or all chicken all month.
